The littlest birds sing the prettiest songs.

Legos
It was like Lego heaven. I don’t know how your theology rolls, but I am pretty sure that if toys make the cut, then Legos will be in the after life. Just sayin’.

buddies
At some point during our Florida Adventure we made our way to San Antonio. Florida, of course. We were finally able to visit my dad and Jenny at their new home. We were greeted at the door by Darryl – a super handsome greyhound who used to be quite the competitor. Piper was his biggest fan. She tried to sleep beside him in his dog bed with her own little pillow. Actually, the pillow she was lying on is part of this story. Jenny bought the smaller kids the most adorable pillows, called Owl Buddies. The kids loved them – and they made the perfect sleeping companions for the rest…

What Seems So Fun . . .
Our kids love PBS. Mosely even watches a little too much – remember? A lot of PBS shows are sponsored by Rainforest Cafe. So our kids naturally ask, “When can we go to Rainforest Cafe?” Guess what restaurant is located at Downtown Disney? Yep. So we’ve been talking this place up for months. The kids are all so excited. They think of it as a highlight on our Florida journey. They cannot wait. And then we visit. It looks like, well, a rain forest. On acid. At first the kids are amused. Entertained. The rain falling all around us is cool. The leaves of the trees hanging around the walls…

A Dog’s Life
We think we have it bad with Magnus. I imagine Kipling thinks she has it bad with us!

Never Heard That One
London was asking to play games today. I told her she should play some group games with her siblings – like Ring Around the Rosy or Duck Duck Goose. And she said, “We can’t play Duck Duck Goose. There aren’t enough of us.”Not enough Keigley kids? Now, that’s one I’ve never heard before!

What I Want To Do
What is now proved, was once only imagined. – William Blake There are some things that I long to feed my children every day. And it isn’t food for their stomachs. I want to offer them a sense of mystery. The incredible blessing of a vivid imagination. The gift of simple joy. The beauty of anticipation. The knowledge of a powerful and loving God. The appreciation of nature. The ability to be still. Food for their brains. Their hearts. Their souls. I know I fail miserably every day with these lofty ideals. And I always fail more dramatically on days when I forget to pursue these things myself. When I…

Manners
“Manners are made up of petty sacrifices.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson It really is the little things. While walking recently with the kids, I found myself just like them – tired, sweaty and sleepy. My arms were already full when Bergen asked me, “Mom, will you please carry my towel?” I took the towel but I didn’t really want to. “Thank you Mommy for carrying my towel,” Bergen said to me. And just like that, the load seemed lighter. I really didn’t mind carrying the extra towel. Because he said “thank you”. Kevin has made it a priority to train our children to be appreciative of the meals I prepare…

The Right Team
Bergen is a boy who approaches life wide open. Most people only see Hawkeye revved up, nearly careening out of control at any given moment. But the boy has more depth than that. He loves his siblings. Loves them. He particularly loves his younger siblings. Adores would not be too strong of a word here. Berg offers to hold Piper’s hand when walking outside. He requests the pleasure of tucking her in for daily naps. He reads her books and plays Weebles endlessly with her. Each morning he ambles into our bedroom, thumb in mouth, searching for Otto Fox so he can get in his daily dose of cuddling.…

You Tell Me
Is it wrong to dress your children in Run DMC and Rolling Stones t-shirts if the shirts were on sale for 75 cents at Target? I drew the line at ACDC. A girl’s got to have standards – right?

She Said
A few years ago our family discovered a little product known as a buff. Since the buff’s introduction into our household, there has probably not been a day that has passed that some Keigley head has not donned one of these head wear miracles. (If you have any questions concerning buffs, ask any of us. Except Wilder. He can’t talk yet.) We should be spokespeople for this product. Really. In fact, in a way, we are. I mean, there’s the whole word of mouth thing, of course. Truly, strangers have frequently stopped me to ask about my head attire and then have actually written the website down. There’s also the…

Maybe
So maybe I just didn’t keep up with laundry as well as I should have this week. And so maybe Piper Finnian is wearing the pajamas that she wore last night, because they were conveniently lying beside her bed where I conveniently dropped them (I mean wisely placed them) this morning. And so maybe Bergen just went to bed wearing swim trunks and a t-shirt. And maybe Mosely went to bed wearing Bergen’s Batman underoos, Bergen’s almost-too-small-for-her running pants and Bergen’s little boy white undershirt. And so maybe London is sporting a more classic pair of Bergen’s underwear – the whitey-tighties. Maybe tomorrow I’ll do some laundry. Or maybe not.…

Tears, Glorious Tears
At this house, it seems as if someone is always crying. Little Mister Wilder cries when he is hungry. And he cries when he can’t manage to flip his thumb in the correct direction and maintain its position in his own minuscule mouth. He cries at four a.m. and he cries around seven thirty as well. If his diaper change is taking too long, tears ensue. When the food that should stay in his stomach flows out of his mouth and around his head, he cries about that as well. For Piper the tears are born of genuine frustration with her current lot in life. She wants to go outside…
