Ordinary work, which is what most of us do most of the time, is ordained by God every bit as much as is the extraordinary. All work done for God is spiritual work and therefore not merely a duty but a holy privilege.

Doodle Your Day: A Timberdoodle Review

    October 26, 2016 /

I have always been a fan of journals and notebooks that encourage you to record some memory or some thought daily.  I like them for me, personally.  And – I like them for the kids as students.  Sometimes I create journal topics myself for the kids to use in their school work and some years I know it will be much more productive to purchase an already planned journal for the kids to use. This Timberdoodle journal – Doodle Your Day – was given to my family in exchange for a review and it is one of the items in the box that the kids almost fought over.  In…

The Puzzleball Globe: A Timberdoodle Review

    October 19, 2016 /

Our family loves puzzles. Every year for Christmas there will be a puzzle under the Christmas tree.  Actually, I prefer to leave the puzzle under the tree, all wrapped up, until the day after Christmas.  And then, on that quiet day-after morning, there’s one present left to open.  Perfect for the after Christmas crash, we can just hang around the kitchen table, eat holiday leftovers and work lazily on a puzzle together.  The last wrapped gift is a puzzle – and we all know it – but no one knows what the subject of the puzzle will be.  (I like to match the puzzle’s theme to the previous year…

    Bloxels: A Timberdoodle Review

    October 12, 2016 /

Perhaps this review should begin with a confession. I have hardly looked at Bloxels.  I read the description of it on the website when Timberdoodle offered it for a review.  (You can order it by itself of course, or it comes as part of the second grade curriculum kit.)   I thought, “I bet my kids would like that.”  Bloxels is a create-your-own-video-game.  And my kids – like most human children – are attracted to screens and games.  I figured an educational video game could be better than your average video game. When the box arrived the kids were very excited to try it. I wasn’t ready to look…

Famous Figures of the American Revolution: A Timberdoodle Review

    October 5, 2016 /

Instant curb appeal. If you can claim that an educational tool has curb appeal – this one does!     Famous Figures of the American Revolution – sold by Timberdoodle individually or included in their third grade curriculum kit. I was excited to receive these cut outs in exchange for writing this review. “Mom, can we please open those little guys?” the kids would beg.  Before I ever even gave permission to open the book and begin the cutting and pinning they had divided up who would get which historical character – Berg had his eye on Davy Crockett.  (Or was it Daniel Boone?)     I chose to…

    Doodle Lit: A Timberdoodle Review

    August 31, 2016 /

Oh you guys, this book hits on all the fun things for me.  My favorite parts of homeschool.     It’s called Doodle Lit and it comes in Timberdoodle’s 8th Grade Curriculum Kit or you can buy it solo on their website as well. It’s a pretty straightforward book that is a fun take on literature. Lots of classic authors are included – Mark Twain, Shakespeare, Charlotte Bronte, Herman Melville, Jane Austen and so many more. For each author there is a cleverly drawn portrait of that author and then a handful of pages for your student to doodle, draw or create in unique and interesting ways.    …

20 Ways To Draw A Bike: A Timberdoodle Review

    August 8, 2016 /

I love books like these when I am just judging a book by its cover. I find myself naturally drawn to them on book store shelves. Lots of times I hold them, consider them – and then leave them on the shelf. I think I just don’t know where to fit them in. Which is why it is an extra bonus to me to have an opportunity to receive and review this art book for Timberdoodle. Recently I tucked this charming little book into my bag on an adventure day with my three middle schoolers.  (I’m still getting used to saying that.)  The younger two kids were at camp…

Tenzi: A Dice Game That Rolls Well Here.

    June 29, 2016 /

The cardboard box on our doorstep always draws a crowd when the kids see the return address of Timberdoodle. They’ve come to associate the company with really fun products that they get to evaluate with me. I mean, I think their opinion matters, since the Timberdoodle products are primarily educational, even when they are fun.  And they are the students, so I love to hear what they really think. We are a family who already loves games so we decided the Tenzi dice would be the first out of the box for the review. I love games, but I love games even more when they have simple directions and multiple…

Crazy Aaron’s Thinking Putty: A Timberdoodle Review

    May 17, 2016 /

The kids and I still love checking the mail. I thought maybe I’d outgrow that daily hopeful walk to the mailbox. But as it turns out, I have not. Even when I am not anticipating any letters or packages, you just never know what you might find in the funny shaped tube at the end of the driveway. Receiving the opportunity to be a Timberdoodle blog reviewer – thanks especially to you guys! – has upped the fun factor in our mail checking days this year. I’ve got a pile of great curriculum and such to work through with the kids before I analyze and ponder our experience with each…

Mobi Max Math Game: A Review

    March 9, 2016 /

(Cheers and party emoticons, you guys – it’s my first Timberdoodle review.  Thanks to Timberdoodle I have the opportunity to receive this math game at no cost in exchange for my honest review – with opinions all of my own.  The opinions — that’s the easy part!) Math and I aren’t BFFs so when I see anything that can make math seem fun or attractive or appealing — I’ll give it a shot. The Mobi Max Game arrived in the mail and the first impressions were of its cool packaging. Eh.  Maybe fun packaging shouldn’t matter – but we all know, it does.  The whale is cute, has a hook for hanging…

Five Finds Friday (fifteen) (loose tooth and BBQ sauce. unrelated.)

    February 26, 2016 /

Hooray.  It’s Friday. FUNNY I have six children. They each have a mouth. And in those six mouths you would find the normal human amount of teeth. And – during the course of five of their lives – they have all lost the normal amount of baby teeth. I’m not great at math and I’m unwilling to figure out the exact number but you can assume with me that the baby teeth lost numbers are high in this family. Yesterday Otto – the baby of the family and the Keigley with the most baby teeth still in his mouth – lost his FIRST tooth. It was perfect poetic justice that the…
