Five Finds Friday (the coolest ride & how much are boots worth?)

Hello Friday.  How have you been?

FUNNY

Bergen is obsessed with jeeps.  I can’t explain it.  He just loves them.  States their existence every time we drive by one.  “Jeep,” the announcement from the backseat on every car ride.

This week our friends have a loaner Jeep from their brother and they were so generous as to offer my boys a ride.  (Seriously – I really do have wonderful friends.)

Bergen was ecstatic.  Over the top.

When he returned from his excursion he entered the door grandly.  And as if waiting to deliver his line, he dramatically announced, “I feel sorry for every person who is not driving a jeep.”

FASHIONABLE

You know what guys?  Today I have TWO fashionable entries.  I’m doing them BOTH.  Because I can.

First, I’ve long admired Hunter rain boots.

And these guys are in RED!  I LOVE them.

Someone please tell me two things — are they worth the high price tag?  AND where can you buy them at a discount?

Second, Jo sent me this link to Mini Boden, makers of ridiculously cute but ridiculously overpriced children’s attire.  (My daughter’s only Mini Boden shorts are a thrift store discovery!)  You guys.  Mini Boden has a series of clothing inspired by author Roald Dahl!  I love that.  And the clothes are SO adorable and fun.  I want the kids to be wearing all of them.

Look at these shirts!

And there are dresses inspired by Matilda and clothes inspired by The Fantastic Mr. Fox.  They’re just perfect.

Well done Mini Boden.  Well done.

FLAVORFUL

I think maybe I mentioned it this week, but my memory is forty-three years old so it’s not all that reliable.

We tried a new variety of apple this week and we all love its crisp crunch, white insides and sweet taste.

Try the Cameo variety next time you hit up the orchard.

Also, Bergen Hawkeye picked that apple from the tree, declaring it to be the most perfect apple he’s ever picked.  He could be right.

FAITHFUL

Well, you know, since I’m doing whatever I want in this week’s Friday post, maybe I’ll share two faithful entries also.

First, our sweet family friend Renee spent some of her fall break from teaching with us.  She was an easy house guest of the best variety – pitching in with school, taking initiative to help get kids to bed or to help them stay on task or do their chores or whatever needing doing.  She rolled with the punches and was all around cheerful.  It was a treat to have her around.

Second, there’s this song that a friend shared with me back at the church retreat I attended in Charleston a few weeks ago.  I think it might be an old song, but I really love its message, which is new to me and feels like a bit of the story of my life.

Sara Groves – Less Like Scars.

It’s been a hard year
But I’m climbing out of the rubble
These lessons are hard
Healing changes are subtle
But every day it’s
Less like tearing, more like building
Less like captive, more like willing
Less like breakdown, more like surrender
Less like haunting, more like remember
And I feel you here
And you’re picking up the pieces
Forever faithful
It seemed out of my hands, a bad situation
But you are able
And in your hands the pain and hurt
Look less like scars and more like character
Less like a prison, more like my room
It’s less like a casket, more like a womb
Less like dying, more like transcending
Less like fear, less like an ending
And I feel you here
And you’re picking up the pieces
Forever faithful
It seemed out of my hands, a bad situation
But you are able
And in your hands the pain and hurt
Look less like scars
Just a little while ago
I couldn’t feel the power or the hope
I couldn’t cope, I couldn’t feel a thing
Just a little while back
I was desperate, broken, laid out, hoping
You would come
And I need you
And I want you here
And I feel you
And I know you’re here
And you’re picking up the pieces
Forever faithful
It seemed out of my hands, a bad, bad situation
But you are able
And in your hands the pain and hurt
Look less like scars
And more like character

FEELS

These boys wrestle and play together most of every day.

It’s rare for the two of them to argue or disagree.  They are certainly the two siblings most likely to be getting along at any given moment in time.

Brothers.  What a lovely gift to one another.
