Five Finds Friday (ten) (blueberry muffins and cuddl duds)

So – here we go, Friday.

FUNNY

Jen Hatmaker.

She’s so funny.

I’ll stop talking about her one day, but I don’t know when.

I’ll write a blog post soon that no one will read because I’ve talked about her too much.  But I’ll still be reviewing her book For the Love which I finally finished listening to on audio version.

She just makes me laugh.  Her “thank you notes” are the best.

(She says she stole the idea of them from a late night talk show host so I’ll steal the idea from both of them as I make up my own thank you note.)

Thank you kitchen floor, for always appearing dirty just milliseconds after I sweep you.  Your scummy brown filth right at the entrance to my home always assures my guests that I am an absolute misfit at home cleanliness.  Thank you.

FASHIONABLE

Thumb holes.

They’re my favorite.

And now that it is actually cold I am all about my favorite layering shirts – the ones with the thumb holes.

I wish their name wasn’t so ridiculous but these under layers are so great, I don’t care how silly the name is.

Well.  I kind of care.

It’s Cuddle Duds – okay, already?

And, what’s worse – it’s spelled wrong!

Cuddl Duds.

For.  The.  Love.

I bought mine at Target a long time ago but they are still my favorite.

(See?  Cuddl Duds.  Point in case why I should eliminate my FASHIONABLE entry on Fridays.  I just don’t deserve the category.)

P.S.

I visited Target today.  They are still there and currently on sale.  Win win.

FLAVORFUL

These are our family muffins.

Like – if I bring you a meal because you just had a baby or you just had surgery or you just moved into your new house or you just like muffins – these muffins will be making an appearance in the food ensemble.

I know they must be good because my sister-in-law, whose cookings skills far out measure my own, asked me for the recipe.  It was an exciting moment.

Blueberry Banana Muffins.

(I think the secret is the too-ripe bananas.)

Also, sometimes I make my muffins into mini loaves.  Because – mini loaves.

(Another secret is to use frozen blueberries.  I love to pick extras at our local blueberry patch and save them for the winter – like little Sal.  And I keep them frozen for this recipe.  That way they’re never mushy and they pop in your mouth when the muffins are finished.  It’s perfect.)

Blueberry Muffins

2 c. all purpose flour,  2 c. wheat flour

2 t baking soda

1 t salt

2/3 c. sunflower seed oil

1 1/4 c. sugar  (Often I substitute honey or a blend of both)

1 c. buttermilk

2 mashed bananas

2 t vanilla

2 c. frozen blueberries

Combine all ingredients except blueberries.  Fold in blueberries.  Bake at 375 for about 20 minutes.

FAITHFUL

I know people already read her words by the millions.

But this blog post by Ann Voskamp about discovering her son’s disease just had me all about the tears.

I adore the way she plays with words but I adore even more the way she points out and holds up Jesus in All The Hard.

When she writes this:

Wish for the past and you drink poison.

Worry about the future and you eat fire.

Stay in this moment and you eat the mana needed for now.

I know she is writing that just for me.

(And look up that word – mana.  It’s not a typing mistake.  It’s lovely word.)

FEELS

I guess maybe I’ll always be featuring my kids in some form or fashion on this “feels” section.

I love the brothers though.

Goodness – they are sweet.

The conversations and the cuddles and the sword fights and the friendship and the fact that they are now old enough to genuinely enjoy one another’s company is just pure magic right now.

      What a cool story!

      Thank you for sharing that!

Life is…….complicated and unpredictable. And sometimes surprisingly sweet.

        Surprisingly sweet, indeed!

        It still blows my mind.

And even crazier? I’m flying to TX in April to meet 70ish of these women from the group. I have no idea who I am anymore.

Our favorite muffin is just about like yours but with chocolate chips instead of the blueberries. Dark chocolate chips are the best. I keep them in the freezer all of the time to put in the lunchbox to keep someone out of the vending machines at work. I think next time I make them I need to do some with blueberries for me. Enjoy the snow!

Hmm – yes, I am sure chocolate chips would be a good substitute. I should try that. And I always like to bake a lot at once and keep in the freezer too.
