HomeLife

a tradition (apparently a year in the making)

Yesterday was just one of those days.

The kind of days that are just fun and silly and one of the reasons why I enjoy living at a summer camp.

Last summer after camp ended our friend Andrew sat over at our house one afternoon and had dreadlocks put in his hair by our friend Stacy.

It seems that was the first of an annual tradition.

Last night Taylor and Mitchell were the receivers of the dreads, once again put in by Stacy.

Those boys both have a lot of hair.

In fact, Mitchell’s dreads aren’t even finished yet.

(But they will be.)

But that’s not the point.

The point is – people dropped in and out.

We laughed.

Watched waaay too many movies.

Ate berry bars and tacos and guacamole and Kevin’s Famous Salsa.

Kids cuddled with summer staffers.

Heights were measured on the chart painted on the wall.

(Apparently you can still grow an inch in college- Ryan did!)

And Erik cooked his first-ever burger.

Well, actually – he cooked two.

And he served them between two sugary-sweet glazed doughnuts.

Yes.  You read that right.

And we all tried it.

And I am afraid to admit it, but –

it was downright tasty.

Summer camp is on its way out . . .

so it was, indeed, a gift to spend an afternoon with some summer staffers in an easy-breezy way.

And it was a good burger, too.

I noticed that Helen Rutrough commented about Stacy's Boones Mill shirt. Stacy's grandparents last name is Housman. I do remember some Rutroughs' in the Boones Mill area –one name Gary, I think, if I remember correctly, he was in the plumbing business. (Stacy's grandparents first names: Ruth and Roy) We used to live down the road where the Continental Homes business was located, Route 684.
It is amazing just how God works to bring people together!

Does that say Boones Mill on Stacy's shirt? Is she from my neck of the woods or some other Boones Mill?

      Yes!
      It does say Boones Mill.
      She's one of "ours".
And the funny thing is – she was at our house all day and I never noticed the words Boones Mill until I saw the picture.
She attended Boones Mill Elementary! (her mom commented above!!) Hooray for Virginia!

While I thoroughly enjoy seeing your sweet children on your blog, I am quite delighted to see my sweet daughter on it today –especially since I haven’t seen her since May! Thanks for all you do for her.
