Ordinary work, which is what most of us do most of the time, is ordained by God every bit as much as is the extraordinary. All work done for God is spiritual work and therefore not merely a duty but a holy privilege.

    The Slack Line.

    June 25, 2014 /

Last Christmas (Wait. Was that seriously six months ago already?) our kids’ main Christmas present was a zip line. It’s been jolly good fun. That gift was part of a concentrated effort to make our yard Fun. We want our kids to play outside. And we want our kids’ friends to want to be out there too. With those thoughts driving us, Kevin also purchased a slack line. A slack line is just basically a nylon strap that you cinch between two trees and then you try to walk across the nylon strap – tight rope style. Wild and crazy people string them very high and even attempt stunts from the slack line.…

    Phoebeflock: A Giveaway!

    June 23, 2014 /

You guys. I have this plethora of talented friends and family members and framily members. I’m so lucky! And you all are about to be so lucky too. Let’s talk about my friend Jo.     Jo makes things. She sews. She sews beautiful things. Quilts.  Napkins.  Banners.  Fabric art.  Headbands. She created some curtains for our house.  London “hired” her to craft a cloak – Lord of the Rings style.  We use Jo-crafted cloth napkins at our meals.  I wear headbands made by Jo.  You can tell – I’m a big fan. Jo art hangs in the living room.  And in the dining room. Our kids wear precious crowns crafted…

Game Kit: A Great Little Product and a Lot of Fun

    June 11, 2014 /

I cannot remember how long this sat on our shelf. At least a year. Likely more. I actually won a little box of treasures once on a blog giveaway so long ago that I cannot even remember what blog it was. It was a literal treasure box of items though. Bare books (our first introduction and now a staple to our homeschool supplies), wax crayons, a blank puzzle. And this. A blank do-it-yourself board game kit. A game kit complete with a blank board, a spinning wheel, blank cards, play money, dice – you name it. Upon a school room rearrange I unearthed the game kit hiding away and decided I…

    Dear Chacos.

    May 20, 2014 /

Dear Chacos, I saw you once. Years ago. I was younger. You were too. You looked … rope-y.  You left the toes all bare and open to roots and rocks. I was wearing Keens. They were close-toed and I was close-minded. Arrogant, even. (I’ve been known to have opinions.  Strong ones.  And verbal ones.  Written ones too.) I climbed aboard the Keen train and we’ve been chugging along together.  Me and my husband and our six children.  And the many friends we’ve dragged along for the ride. Yes.  I’ve written letters to Keen. Blog posts. Love songs. And King Keen has never acknowledged my voice. I’m not bitter. I’m a…

    Elly: A Giveaway!

    April 18, 2014 /

Remember the cousins I mentioned a few weeks ago? They were our comfortable starting point on our northern adventure and our soft landing spot on our winding journey back home again. The whole clan – the whole giant mess of them – are just fabulous humans. On the family tree they are my cousins through my father – his sister’s family.  Growing up we spent Thanksgivings together on the farm.  They were my favorite of the kid cousins.  (Don’t worry Sherry – your spot is still safe too – but you were a grown up cousin!)  I loved their visits – seeing their van or camper or whatever conveyance they…

    The Perplexus: A Review

    April 17, 2014 /

We were on the road for more than 2,000 miles in March. I try to plan a handful of little surprises along our treks to make the time spent in the car more fun for everyone inside the maroon shuttle. When we reached the Tennessee border the kids were allowed to open a family gift. We’ve seen it in the hands of our friends for months. I’d never heard of this little sphere of entertainment until our friends introduced it to us. The perplexus. It’s about the size of a soccer ball and it’s plastic and it’s filled with brightly colored mazes and a small metal ball to traverse those…
