five finds friday (fried dough, there is no fashion to be found, the woods are still magical)

But for real – is it actually Friday again?

What did I even do this week?

I can’t answer that. Although, obviously, I’m the only one who actually CAN answer that. Except I can’t. Not because I’m all about the secrets. It’s just because I don’t even know what I did this week. I don’t even know how Friday came so quickly.

Yes. That is how it is going.

funny

Otto is funny. (Even when he really isn’t.)

The way he celebrates finishing his math this year.

The way he takes his role as uncle so seriously.

The sandwiches he makes.

Also, in the running for funny this week are the following photos:

Why is this hydrant in the woods far far away from any accessible road that could possibly access it?

And these hilarious text messages between fictional characters.

flavorful

The kids are each taking turns planning a family night.

Otto based his family night on a giant game of Risk. You know, the game that takes eighty days to play.

To go along with his game, he and I picked out one food from each continent to have as dinner. Turns out, every continent offers something dough based if you look hard enough and apparently an overwhelming number of our selections involved bread, frequently frying it in some manner.

His choice for North America is the apparently classic Canadian dessert – a beavertail.

It was pretty fun to make, although it did involve multiple pauses for rising dough so plan ahead.

faithful

This picture is just pretty.

On Sundays we have started watching The Chosen. We’re finding it on YouTube but I’m guessing there’s some other way you can watch it as well.

It’s been good to watch together. It’s a retelling of Biblical stories, starting the New Testament. So far, we’ve all really enjoyed it and it’s brought up some good discussion at our house.

fashionable

Fashionable?

Who even wears clothing any longer?

All I’ve put on are leggings for so long that I don’t even know myself anymore.

Forget fashion, here’s a picture of some of my kids sitting on the counter.

feels

In many ways, my kids don’t spend as much free nature play as they used to. That hurts my heart a bit.

So it was super satisfying to see a little creative play recently.

Long live the magic of the woods!
