five finds friday (the one about writing a book and my daughter going to college)

We’ve made it.

Cheers and high fives because it’s been a long week.

But look – wasn’t the beach beautiful?

funny

I’ve been working my way through a couple of boxes in the attic that are stuffed to overflowing with keepsakes and memories.

And I keep finding gems like this.

Behold the glory of ALL of our haircuts.

What a family!

flavorful

Last week I ate dinner with Jo and Jason at a local restaurant – Hare & Field.

It was delightful. (And the company was oh-so-fun.)

I can never seem to stray from their Fish and Chips, which I love. But I also tried their parmesan gnocchi – my first time trying that difficult to pronounce dish.

Turns out – it’s delicious.

faithful

I finished my writing class. (By the way, if you want to get some writing guidance for an idea brewing in the recesses of your mind and your Google docs, I have a code you can use for a discount to take the same course I took at Build a Better Us.)

In my exit conversation with Ruth (who is a fabulous instructor, encourager and editor) she said it might be time for me to start pitching this book idea.

As in, writing a proposal, sending it to people, taking action.

I felt overwhelmed – excited, scared, enthusiastic, frozen.

This means a few things.

  1. Any extra words I have will most likely be spent poured into this book project. Which means the posts here will be a little slower in coming.
  2. I’m ridiculously grateful for the literal DECADE of reading you guys have given to me. I will need you to make this happen. Apparently, already having folks who read your words and care a little about what you say goes a long what to helping you get published.
  3. If you know any agents, publishers, industry folks who would be interested in reading my first three chapters – tell me ALL about it.

But seriously, without the steady discipline of writing routinely in this space, I’d be nowhere near any hope of writing a book at all.

So thank you. And please, don’t go anywhere.

fashionable

Not only is this guy the most handsome model, this shirt is all local.

Printed locally and sold right here, don’t you guys all want a TRH quarter length t-shirt?

feels

I could really go off the rails in this portion of the Five Finds. It’s been a heavy feelings week.

But I’m going to stay on task and just limit myself to TWO comments.

One – have you heard the Ben Rector song about Thanksgiving?

You can bet that I’m going to force my family to listen to this around the Thanksgiving table.

And the video is so cute too.

Two – London got accepted to COLLEGE.

I’m giving the credit to London, me and my friend Charlotte Mason. (I knew we could trust her!)

And she’s going to move away and I’m going to be sad.

But I’m also really excited for her.

And another thing. The college search took long enough. Let me know all your genius scholarship and grant and dollar bill ideas because you know what’s more expensive than car insurance for teenagers? COLLEGE.
