Quarantine Made Me Do It

You know – I really like being home.

Many Friday nights it is EXACTLY what I choose do even when there are a potential myriad of other options.

But just like seeing a sign that says “don’t walk on the grass” somehow makes that patch of grass uniquely appealing, something about being required to stay home makes it a bit harder.

So here we all are.

Feeling the feels. Missing our friends. Realizing how important face to face friendships are, how important physical touch is, how much it matters to show up, break bread together, share a bag of popcorn at the movies, babysit one another’s kids, have a cup of tea together.

I told you guys my ridiculous (but true) story of taking my skirt off in my living room.

My friend Tripp shared how he wore two baseball caps to work this week without noticing.

Jane sent me videos of a mom confessing to eating popcorn in her closet.

I’ve seen people share photos of the random dinners they’ve tossed together from pantry leftovers – a pickle and waffles, rice and spaghetti sauce. Stuff like that.

I suggested a live video to one of my clients at work for us to help promote her business via social media. She sent me a photo of her current hair and typed “hard pass”. I mean, I actually thought she looked pretty cute despite the fly away hair, but she disagreed.

I guarantee there are other, far more bizarre things we’ve all succumb to but just aren’t sharing.

Now’s the time.

Let’s all share what quarantine has made us do.

It’s time for allowable blame shifting.

Here’s what quarantine has made me do – so far.

I allowed some teenage kids I know to start watching a movie at 10:52. On a school night.

I stood in the kitchen eating a chocolate cake I baked, straight from the pan.

I rearranged the living room.

I paid $20 to rent Emma on our TV.

I’ve finished three novels.

I binge watched some lame show until 3 in the morning one night.

(I’m embarrassed by how many of these involve lazily watching TV.)

And this one – surely the worst of this list. I signed up for Hinge – some online dating app I saw advertised. What? I already said I was done with those.

Listen, quarantine made me do it.

What’s it made you do?

We are quarantined currently. I drove to town-alone!-to pick up some items my husband had his work lay out for him.
Afterwards, I drove past Wal-mart, Kroger, McDonalds, the high school, the courthouse, the hospital, etc., etc. before heading home. I drove slowly and looked at everything and everyone. I waved and smiled at random strangers. All for no real reason…..just…connecting???

I don’t know why – but this makes me laugh a little. Just thinking of you driving around waving at folks. But goodness, we need some smiling and waving!
