Colorful Family Pictures.

If you’ve seen the Keigley kids lately wandering around here and there you may have noticed our five year old son has a pink streak across the back of his hair.

Maybe you saw that London has reddish dye all across the tips of her hair.

I have a green streak somewhere in the back of my hair and our hands were all multi-colored for days.

It’s not that we’re really into color vibes or hair dye.

It’s more like this:

Our lovely friend Jane is a photographer.

A week or so ago we had a family photo session scheduled at our house.

She sent me a text.  It said – I have this great idea.  We’ll let it be a surprise for the kids.

Jane shows up.  We dress in basically clean clothing with no obvious rips or tears or giant stains.

We pose and smile (well, Kevin does crazy things for the photographer’s amusement) and we wind up with some sweet family pictures out by the picturesque old barn that’s great for photos but bad for livestock.

By Jane. Obviously.Silly with my girls. About par for the course. Good grief you guys. I know I am blessed. Little adorable. An actual picture of the two of us. How unusual.

And then.

Then.

Jane tosses everyone of us a white t-shirt and instructs us to put them on.  We oblige.  Because we’re obedient like that.

And then her handy assistant/husband Walter hands all of us water pistols.  Water pistols to be filled with tye dye paint.

This kid is so much fun.

It pretty much took less than two seconds for every kid in our family to get stoked about shooting one another with paint.

We took our weapons to the field and then the Crazy began.

Good times.

I love the way Otto’s face looks in all of these images.

The boy loved every single second.

It was seriously bold paint.  Dye in our hair.  Sometimes in our mouths.  All over our clothing of course.

And it was silly.  And it was messy.

But.  You guys.  It was so much fun.

It was a wonderful moment – sun setting, mayhem abounding and genuine hilarity and group laughter all across the board.  For that little moment in time – we were just so happy to be so silly together.

That’s better than a picture – I can promise you that.

Our hands were stained for many days.  My hair still has red in it. Otto is sporting a pretty noticeable pink streak boldly across his white hair.

But we don’t care.

It was a jolly good evening and the most fun we’ve had taking family portraits.

Jane has a few more pictures from our colorful evening on her website – right here.

And now you know – if you see us – why we’re a little black and blue and red and green.
