natural inspiration

Can one piece of art work be the sole inspiration for an entire room?

I think the answer is yes.

The kids and I have a joint creation we have been working on for several weeks now.

London painted a black bird in the center of a canvas and I wrapped red burlap around the canvas and we knew we wanted something natural to frame out the bird but we just didn’t know what.

So we left the unfinished project leaning against the bookshelf in our bedroom for weeks.

Until today.

A day in which the kids gathered four giant cupfuls of adorable miniature pine cones from the Balsam Fir tree in the front yard of our soon-to-be residence.

Who knew Balsam Fir trees produced such perfectly magnificent tiny pine cones?  (I did not.)

And then, this evening, whilst Kevin read a chapter of everyone’s current favorite novel, Wildwood, Mosely and Piper handed me the pine cones one by one while I hot glued the little pieces to the red burlap.

Ta-da!

I think it is going to look great on the wall of mine and Kevin’s bedroom.

And from it comes a few key choices I hope to make in the bedroom. Like red burlap curtains and a red burlap bed skirt.  Plus, some natural elements in the bedroom – such as real branches used as curtain rods and tree limbs hanging over our bed.

All these ideas from one simple art project.

Don’t you just love how creating inspires creating?
