HomeSchooling,  Keiglets

Art. Found.

At the School of Keigley we probably place a heavier-than-some-might-consider-necessary emphasis on art.

We like to smear our many small hands across canvas and hang it on our walls.

We like to listen to music and draw what we think we hear.

It’s how I want our homeschool to look.

It’s what I want it to be about.

This week we tried Found Art.

Art that requires no money and no trip to the supply store.

(Partly because it fits our budget, partly because we have all been too sick to attempt heading out in public and partly because I think it’s important to use what is in front of you to create every day art.)

We grabbed this old wooden puzzle whose alphabet pieces had been long ago lost.

I found some decoupage that was so old the lid was basically glued to the container.

Surprisingly enough, however, its contents remained usable.

Mosely cut out maps from an old atlas that had been collecting dust beside a bookshelf in the hall.

London used a Sharpie (a rare treat for her) to rewrite a quote we found in a 2001 copy of an old Cottage & Homes magazine.

And then we all decoupaged the mess out of the maps and the quotes in a pattern we found appealing.

And the end result of all those random supplies . . .

.

This little work of collaborative found art is now hanging in the kids’ bathroom.

(It compliments the travel theme already at place on their walls.)

The quote reads (in case you can’t make it out from the photo):

“When you’re safe at home you wish you were having an adventure;

when you’re having an adventure you wish you were safe at home.”

(Thornton Wilder)

So I came over to thank you for your comment and ended up spending an hour reading your post and the links within! Love your idea form music and art! I'm so doing that. THis is my first year homeschooling and I'm soaking up all the good ideas I can find. Really enjoy your writing Lacey. Thanks so much for sharing with us.
So, I'm embarrassed to ask about you going to North Hills because I'm afraid you'll say you've been there for seven years and I'll feel dumb for not knowing you. I'm just wondering if we've met and why I'm stupidly not remembering if we have.

      Thank you.
Actually – we just joined North Hills – like last week.
We have been attending off and on for a few years now – but you and I have never officially met.
Maybe we'll get a chance to at the upcoming Bible Study – do you attend that?

Great stuff. It's always nice to see others inspiring creativity in their kids because its usually the kids who inspire us more in the end. I just started following and look forward to more of your posts.
