weekend ramble (the wrong date. the wrong time. the right pants.)

This weekend I  . . .

Spent a girls weekend with three of my daughters while my boys went fishing.

Watched two movies about Jane Austen in some capacity.  (Austenland and Becoming Jane.  One was satisfyingly happy and one was real gloomy.)

Took my girls shopping – with friends – and marveled at how much they enjoyed it.  The times – they are a changing.

Asked my friend if I could pull off pinkish/purpleish pants.  She said yes.

Purchased said pants.

And two days later, wore said pants, deciding that even if I couldn’t wear them in some perfectly flattering way, that I didn’t even care because the color made me happy and my wardrobe is overflowing with gray and dull and a bright burst of color was just what I wanted.  I think I’ll call them my Glad Pants.

I met Danny Glover and Bernie Sanders.  Was reminded that a lot of people have a lot of opinions.  Was reminded that those opinions are much easier to hear and far more likely to persuade if said opinions are delivered with grace and kindness.  Nobody loves a jerk.  I have a lot more thoughts, naturally, but mostly I’ll say that Mr. Sanders and Mr. Glover were polite and respectful.  I wish the same could be said for the people posting comments online.

Took my girls to the theatre to see a play.  On the wrong night.  Couldn’t get in.  Had to turn away from the theatre and leave.

Ate a stuffed bao at a new Vietnamese coffee shop and declared it incredibly delicious.

Arrived at church “on time” for our Easter service but on time actually means late when the parking lot is packed and there are literally zero seats remaining.

Went over to a nearby Starbucks with our neighbors – also people who were “on time”.  Had our own little Faux Easter celebration right there in the sunshine and was reminded of how God gives good gifts.

Enjoyed lunch with dear friends, celebrating Easter and friendship around a full table with stellar people who are both easy to be with and have deep ties to our hearts.

Got a handful of things really really wrong.  Did a couple of things pretty well.  And neither direction really mattered all that much because nobody’s counting.

My brother moved to Burlington, VT, last summer. He’s actually renting a house down the road from Sen. Sanders. On their first day in town they went to the July 4th festival and the Senator was just hanging out enjoying his town. My bro got a pic of their kids with him; said he was super nice.

Really liked this article! Love the pictures of your family. Showed the pic of those pants to the wife , nice!
You are so right about being respectful. In our Sunday school class I/we talk about the need to lead with love, because “nobody cares what you know, until they know you care”!
That is one of the main reasons, if not the main one, we as Christians, have not made a bigger impact.
    Thanks for the words!

LOVE your final remark that nobody’s counting. Yes indeed! That’s Easter resurrection power and grace in a nutshell!
