Chaos,  HomeLife

give me some rainy day ideas, cheer ups, elixirs of any variety.

It’s the rain.

The forced indoors time.

The dreary cold that settles in my brain and in my frozen feet.

I send the kids out for rain walks anyway.

And they come back dripping and muddy and traipsing the dampness through the entire downstairs

and I know that’s all my fault.

The clothes pile up by the dryer because for every one load we can wash – it takes two cycles through the defunct dryer to complete.

I’m blaming the rain.

(Just like Milli Vanilli.)

(Rainy days make me reference old lame singing duos.)

But it’s probably more than just that.

It’s the car – in the shop again.

Again, I tell you.

And did I ever even mention that after its most recent revival that someone backed right into it while Riley was parked?

Broken fiberglass.  Dented door.  Haven’t even had time to fix those damages before it broke down again.

And now we’re back to shuffling three drivers and three agendas through one gas-guzzling vehicle.

It’s more than the rain, of course.

It’s my attitude as well.

It’s rainy in my brain I think.

All foggy and thick and soggy and tired.

Blech.  Blah.  Boo.

Seriously – tell me what you’d do.

(Rain makes me rhyme, what can I say?)

Inspire me today, my friends.

How do you shake that rainy day, tempted to feel sorry for yourself, frustrated at household appliances and unreliable cars kind of mood?

What should I do?

What would you do?

    Dance party
Bad day playlist full of the happiest songs – "Had a Bad Day" "Smile" "Yakety Yak" "I Can See Clearly Now"
Do crafts – get out those kits, bead necklaces, make a paper snowflake blizzard, do those science experiments you've been putting off, make sheet forts with extra sheets
Bake those cookies, then leave the oven door open to dry out and warm the house
Kick the school routine – read books for hours and watch Magic School bus and PBS Nature videos online – be radical

We had hoped to come to SG tonight, but Brian's been in crazy pain since we got home. Hopefully next time.

My aunt gave me a jar of this for Christmas (http://www.food.com/recipe/russian-spice-tea-380937). A cup of this, with a tsp of sugar, helps my mood. Giving in and snuggling under blankets for a bit with a guilty pleasure book or tv show or blog list. Tickling my three year old until he emits the perfect laugh. Naps all around. Homemade bread. (apparently I am an emotional eater) And, as cliche as it is, repeating something like "this, too, shall pass" or "it will be better soon" actually helps.

    Hang in there, my friend….
