Ordinary work, which is what most of us do most of the time, is ordained by God every bit as much as is the extraordinary. All work done for God is spiritual work and therefore not merely a duty but a holy privilege.

    my social dilemma

    September 16, 2020 /

These kids I live with always want to watch movies. Always. But the movies they choose are primarily veneer, shiny, high dollar sort of films. On their own, it seems they seldom click the documentaries, the historical films, the movies that grow their empathy or their understanding. So I started a family movie night (weekly-ish) where the movies are all entirely chosen by ME. (I have a list. Of course I do. And I’m just working my way right through it.) Last night the list got a new contender and I bumped The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind in favor of The Social Dilemma. (Don’t worry – we’ll make our…

five finds friday. (an unusual candle holder & a great movie)

    July 26, 2019 /

We start back to school in August. So it feels true when I ask – did I even have a summer? I mean, yes – sure. It was fantastic. But it was FULL. London and I both said the craziest thing this week. We said something insane like, “It’ll be good when school starts again. Life will maybe slow down a little.” Because when school starts, at least we’ll all be home more. funny On London’s actual birthday this week we spent the day shopping and eating out. That meant we saved her family birthday dinner for a different night this week.  She also decided she would rather save her…

Five Finds Friday (21) (strawberry suggestions, a hilarious video, great shoes and a movie review)

    April 8, 2016 /

FUNNY Tripp and Tyler have a new video. It’s very funny – because it’s kind of true sort of. (Also – there’s a great cameo in there by a surprise celebrity!)  (Another also.  What does it say about me that I have zero point of reference for who Rayvon Owen is?  As in – I have never heard his name before.) Anyway.  You should watch it because you will laugh.  And I don’t know any day that couldn’t be made better with more laughter.  (I’m particularly fond of Tyler’s very deep v-neck and the name of the client on the phone in the last shot.) FASHIONABLE In our family we…

A Five Year Old’s Movie Review: Legend of the Guardians

    October 27, 2010 /

Boys’ Night is a Big Deal at our house. At Bergen’s continual request, he and Daddy went to see Legend of the Guardians not too long ago. In his own words, Berg is going to share about the movie with all the owls . . . Hit it, Siskel. Huh? Never mind.  Tell me about the movie Berg. I do remember that this owl blended into this black rock. Was it scary? It was scary in one part. Who should not watch this film? Piper. Why? Because it’s too scary. Were you scared? No. Why not? Because it’s not scary at all for me. What did Daddy think of it?…
