… a new dinner option

May was a blur.

Finishing up school for five kids

Wrapping up teaching at Meadowlark.

Graduation.

A wedding in Texas.

A drive to the ranch and back.

The ranch itself.

And I guess now it’s time to get serious about All The Other Parts of My Life.

So it’s Monday and I’m plowing along, digging out of a hefty influx of emails in my inbox, fighting the urge to only do Fun Summer Things and resisting the desire to Read All Day Long.

I’m still struggling through the ins and outs of this silly Mailchimp Subscribe situation – but I think I’m getting close to solving it. (Thank you for your patience – I know the empty emails are annoying!)

Do you remember Mother May I?

(I see that post was from 2011 and that makes me feel OLD but we still utilize Mother May I? all the time around here.)

This weekend we came up with a new take on The Dinner Dilemma though.

It was London’s idea.

(And who I am to stop a grown up kid from creative meal ideas?)

This was what we did:

  1. Write everyone’s name down on a slip of paper.
  2. Draw a name.
  3. It is now your job to create a tasty dinner for one for that person.

That’s really all.

Surprisingly, it was an idea that caught on quickly with everyone.

Otto drew my name and I was treated to scrambled eggs and a side of chips and guacamole. (Yes, that combo made me laugh a little – but hey, food I didn’t make – fine by me!)

That evening we had homemade naan pizza and a bright salad, a mini charcuterie board for one, homemade fried rice and an omelette.

We were all cooking together in the kitchen, all in good spirits and enjoying one another’s company and all being fed.

If the isn’t a win for a house overflowing with teenagers then I don’t know what is.
