The Weekend Ramble (no real plans made me very happy)

It was the first weekend in ages where we our schedule wasn’t stacked high with demands and places to be and things that must be accomplished.  What had been on the schedule was cancelled and it was such a free space of time that my kids actually had the opportunity to be bored.

I was thrilled.

I helped a dear friend plan her family’s upcoming adventure to Boston and Philadelphia and if you have any suggestions for great places to eat or must see ice cream shops in either of those two cities – share them in the comments and I’ll be sure she sees them.

I don’t really want to be that person who talks about food so much but with Whole 30 getting fired up on Sunday, it’s for certain been on my mind.  So here I am – being that person.  Just over the weekend I realized how much I snack randomly with zero thought as to what or how often I put food in my mouth.  I was putting the lid on the chocolate chip jar after I refilled it and my hand was reaching for a small handful of chocolate chips.  I didn’t even want them.  I helped Bergen spread cream cheese on his bagel and almost licked the knife.  What, why?  Piper was getting a pickle out of the jar – I thought maybe I’d have one even though I didn’t actually want one.

I guess I’ve got a problem.

Which is actually a piece of why I am trying this next thirty days of food awareness.

We waded through a bit of the barn yesterday and sent some more stuff off to the thrift store.  Not one single room is actually entirely complete in our house, but still – our home feels whole and satisfying.  (Well, I think the girls room is completely finished.)  I still need a lamp shade on the lamp in the living room that blinds my eyes whenever I turn it on.  And I need an electrician too.  (Not for the lamp, of course.)

The boys and I went fishing and this weekend some things were accomplished and some things were not but I’m still collecting grateful over here for smooth floors and clean lines.  For comfortable indoor climates and happy kids.  For splashes of color and books lining the shelves.

This is a thankful season and I’m thrilled to revel in it as long as I can.
