Five Finds Friday: (30) (meatloaf you want to eat & sweet london)

As I am typing this I am extra sleepy – so, you know – I’m blaming all errors on that.

FUNNY

Yeah.

I’m late to all things trendy and on time.

But this bit called Carpool Karaoke is hilarious to me and this one time that the host picks up Chris Martin is very amusing.

(You know you’re funny if you can make a great show by just riding in cars and singing with people.)

FASHIONABLE

I bought a pair of shorts for the first time in actual years.  For real.  First time in years.

I still can’t decide if I really like them but I’m giving it a go this summer.

But that’s not my actual “fashionable” choice this week.

One of the people that I met at Lost Valley this summer wore these very cool t-shirts often.

I asked her about where they all came from and she directed me to Sashy Pants.

Lots of cute t-shirt designs and other fun stuff too.

I especially love this t-shirt for kids.

FLAVORFUL

On one of Family Cooks Together meal nights the kids had requested meatloaf.  Bergen was preparing homemade mac & cheese and Mosely was making spoon bread and London prepped the cooked carrots.

I have not made a lot of meatloaf in my life.  I used London’s Pioneer Woman cookbook and decided that if meatloaf is good enough for her, then it’s good enough for us too.

Man, oh man.

It was good enough alright.

Best meatloaf I’ve ever made — and probably ever eaten.  I actually forgot to buy bacon to wrap around it but next time I might just go crazy and try it with the bacon.  It made a very generous size so this would be great when friends are coming over – or, like we did – great for Sunday leftovers.

Here’s the recipe.

I took a photo but her’s is way better.

FAITHFUL

I don’t have a photo but Jo said she just read an article or something that said we remember better without the aid of a photo because with the photo it’s as if our brain gives us permission to forget the image since we know a photo has stored it away for us instead (or something like that.)

Anyway, I had breakfast with Jo and Hilary (with no photographic evidence) at a little restaurant we had visited together probably about a year ago as Hilary was prepping to move out of the country with her family.

And I was reminded of how kind God has been to our three families to knit us together in such true and solid and sweet ways through really turbulent waters and dynamic change in our lives.

FEELS

London will turn thirteen this summer.  (I’m moving out of denial of this truth ever so slowly.)

We had a long night recently and the kids were heading to bed later than normal.  Sometimes on those nights tuck in time is speedy and chat time at each bedside is cut short.

But not that night.

Because London stood beside me and asked if I was coming upstairs to tuck her in.

I must have hesitated in my response because she said to me,”I hope you do.  I feel better when you tuck me in. I sleep better after that.  You comfort me Mom.”

Well.  Of course you all know what happened next.

I tucked that twelve year old lanky girl right under her covers and spent a little extra time chatting and sorting through the memories of the day and the thoughts of the next day.
